Sat, 20 Feb 2010 11:44:11 -0800 Wonder why I'm unable to post to my own Facebook wall? Hmmm... http://followjason.com/wonder-why-im-unable-to-post-to-my-own-facebo http://followjason.com/wonder-why-im-unable-to-post-to-my-own-facebo
Facebook_block

By now anyone reading this is aware of the problems plaguing the Facebook network this morning, but I thought it was strange when I tried to post a link to an article on my own wall. I suppose it was blocked because of the technical issues. Or could it be the content of the post? Hmmm. No way, Facebook would NEVER censer content! Right?

Thu, 21 Jan 2010 01:56:09 -0800 Add any file to Google Docs! http://followjason.com/add-any-file-to-google-docs http://followjason.com/add-any-file-to-google-docs
Google_docs_upload_anything

Wow... Great new feature on Google Docs (Google's free web-based Office productivity suite) allows users to upload and store ANY file type. Previously, users were restricted to store only those files created with one of the Google Docs tools (Document, Spreadsheet, Presentation, and (web) Form). Now users may upload photos, Microsoft Office documents, PDFs, etc and store them all in Google Doc, then access them under their GMail login or share individual files with others. It looks like the default storage capacity is 1 GB, but Google offers upgrades ranging from 20 GB for $5 per year up to 1 TB for $256 per year. The new Google Docs services doesn't appear to include an auto synchronization feature - yet, but given the fact that other services are offering that (e.g. DropBox) I could see them adding auto-sync in the future.

Thanks Google!

Fri, 16 Oct 2009 11:01:22 -0700 Props to the UX designers behind the BART "QuickPlanner" - fast, accurate, and intuitive! #fb http://followjason.com/props-to-the-ux-designers-behind-the-bart-qui http://followjason.com/props-to-the-ux-designers-behind-the-bart-qui
Bartux

Visiting cities with rapid transit systems has some advantages and disadvantages. They're convenient and cost effective, but usually involve some extra planning to make sure you reach your destination on time. BART, in the San Francisco Bay Area, has made the planning just about as easy as it could possibly be! Get from point A to point B in just two steps, right from the homepage of BART.gov.

QuickPlanner = Great User Experience

  • The QuickPlanner is convenient - located prominently on the homepage of http://www.BART.gov
  • It's intuitive - input form includes three simple options - departing from, destination, and depart/arrive "around"
  • Speed - enter the basic information, and receive your results - two quick steps to the schedule you need.
  • Expansive options - borrowing a technique from the Search playbook, the BART QuickPlanner includes expansive options by providing more than one schedule "around" the time input by the user

It's a simple tool, but very useful. A reminder to all of us engaged in user experience (UX) design to keep things simple!

Sun, 28 Dec 2008 19:04:05 -0800 Mission accomplished! The most useful tool for faucet installation? A hack saw!! (for removing the old faucet!) http://followjason.com/mission-accomplished-the-most http://followjason.com/mission-accomplished-the-most I save a lot of major home related projects for big holiday weekends
like the one we just had. This weekend, I decided it was time to
change out the 80's era kitchen faucet. The faucet installation was
pretty straight forward, but removing the old faucet was a BEAR! I
tried to finesse it out of there, but in the end, I had to break out
the hack saw to cut through the old copper water lines. From what I
noticed in shopping other models of faucets, installations can vary
(newer designs are a lot more installation/removal friendly), so if
you're going to do this project yourself, I'd recommend keeping a saw
or similar tools on hand just in case. Check out the before and after
photos - I'd say a couple hours under the sink was worth it!

Thu, 20 Nov 2008 17:08:00 -0800 I have to say, GMail themes are pretty cool! Some actually change based on the time of day. I'm "Phantasea" how about you? http://followjason.com/i-have-to-say-gmail-themes-are http://followjason.com/i-have-to-say-gmail-themes-are
For more information on GMail themes, check out their help section here:

Setting up a theme in your GMail box is easy - login, click "Settings" (upper right), select the theme of your choice, and set your location (some themes change throughout the day based on your location). I'll admit that I'm not usually a fan of this sort of add-on (who needs bells and whistles in an email platform?) but Google did a really good job with implementation - very seamless and tasteful.

Thu, 30 Oct 2008 21:31:18 -0700 Starbucks - the original micro-blogger? http://followjason.com/starbucks-the-original-micro-b http://followjason.com/starbucks-the-original-micro-b It seems human nature to want to stay informed, and we're growing increasingly accustomed to devouring our information in frequent, bite-sized nuggets. Enter Twitter and other social media tools. As I sipped my afternoon Starbucks, however, it dawned on me that perhaps they are the original micro-blogger.

What do you think?
